6 Max Followup

I sat down at .05/.10, 6 Max ring game this morning to try to clear some of my bonus money.

First pocket was AA.

I raise 4xBB, get two callers, flop comes rainbow garbage and I get one guy to go all in with me. He couldn' t lay down his 66 with two overs on the board. I have $10 in my stack and I fluctuate between $8 and $12 over the next hour. On my last hand I get JJ and the big stack shark at the table raises 9xBB. I put him on something good but he had been aggressive with marginal hands so decide to call and get out if I don't hit my set. Flop comes Jxx rainbow. I check, he bets, I raise, he calls. I bet a little on the turn and a little more on the river and each time he calls. He turns over AA and I take down a $20 pot. "Wheeeeee!"

I liked playing at the 6 Max table. There were basically three of us who seemed to know what we were doing and we took turns taking money from new people sitting down, playing too aggressively and busting out after 20 minutes.

Here's a hand from the middle of all the action that I was particularly proud of. It wasn't a huge pot but it holds up with my assessment that that players at UB are (on average) tighter than the ones at Absolute and will lay down good cards to an inferior hand on occassion.

In other news:

1. I am now, officially, a break even poker player online over my entire career. That is NOT counting bonus money.

2. I am going to try the $5 SNGs and report back after 5 tourneys.

3. My New Year's resolution was to get my BR from $150 to $450. In the month of January I am up to $181.25. I have to feel good about that because that increase represents a lot of $1 and $2 SNGs and play at $.05/$.10 ring games. Hopefully, as I move up to $5 SNGs, that will go up a little faster. Also, my NY resolution requires me to win $25/month on average and I am ahead of that curve at this point just a tiny bit.

4. Bonus money on UB clears VERY slowly at the .5/.10 tables. I was involved in a lot of raked pots today and I cleared a little over a dollar of my bonus.

6 max

Anyone ever tried 6-max limit games? I'm experimenting with it some at low stakes (5/10 cent) as a way to work on clearing UB bonus money - you earn points much faster than on the full $25 NL tables and for far less risk. So far I'm doing pretty well (finishing a session up more often than down), not that I have a great deal of idea yet of how to correctly play shorthanded limit games differently... but neither do my opponents, I think... and it sure is fun. Lots of action.

One of those nights

I strayed from Absolute's $6 SNGs tonight to try Party and UB $10s again and was, I believe, given cause for a minor whine at least (indulge me). Two bad beats at Party to start me out and I've got that good frustrated/ticked off feeling going on but decide to try my luck at UB again, and, well...

Pre-flop:

rodeohussy folds. LRLR raises to 300. majormobi
folds. me dawg re-raises to 975. LRLR goes all-in

Tournament all-in showdown -- players show:

LRLR shows Ks Kh.
me dawg shows Ad Qc.

Flop (board: 5c 5h 2d): (looking good...)

Turn (board: 5c 5h 2d Qh): (hmm... but I'm still 90% to win, it's all good)

River (board: 5c 5h 2d Qh Qd): (#%@#! mother of #^%#@ $*&#! I had my own private Mike Matusow moment here, good thing y'all missed it.)

And just in case I didn't get the message of the evening, the hand I actually went out on a few moments later, in 4th place of course, I had top pair on the flop and on the turn against an opponent holding Ace high, and the river, don't you know, was an Ace.

Argh. Just one of those nights that forces you to go to bed with a burning rage in your heart and a deeply aggrieved sense of injustice, like you used to feel back when you actually thought you gave a sh*t about the exploited working classes suffering under the yoke of imperialistic capitalist tyranny. You know?

Status Update 2

Well, my tournament stretch is the exact opposite of Shane's. I'm playing more of them and I'm having my best month ever. I started off the month bad (1 for 7). Since then, I'm 19/28 in $10.00, 1 /1 in $5.00 and 0/1 in $20.00. ..and I've currently placed in 5 out of 6 (1st twice). This makes me up $197.00 in tournaments this month. I'm thinking I might have to move up to $20.00 if this keeps up.

Status Update

Well, I didnt quit poker. I decided that I would move to tournaments only for a while. That way when I tilt there is a limit to how much I can lose. I can say that it has helped. I havent been getting personal as much. I have been playing my hands rather than trying to bust the asshole.

That being said, the poker gods are pissed that I have a child. I am still losing. Here is a list of my finishes on Ultimate Bet over the last few days. These are all $10 NL Holdem tourns: 4th, 3rd, 3rd (Not terrible so far, huh?), 5th, 7th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th, 4th, 4th, 4th, 4th. Lets add to that the 5th place finish when Idecided to play the $20 tournament. If we calculate all my losses for tournaments played on UB for the month of January you get a grand total of $158.00. This is now about equal to the amount I had lost on the ring tables before I posted my first whining blog. So, here is part 2. Still whining.

There is a slightly tarnished silver lining I guess. I am up on Party playing the $5 tournaments. I am too lazy and frustrated to calculate it, but I think I am up around $60 or $70 on that site. Also, I still have enough bankroll to play a few more $10 tourns on UB. Although another night like tonight will make me drop down to the $5.

I guess that is all for now. I will post when I go broke of course.
